Since September 2017 I have been the Executive Headteacher for both Sutton-on -Trent Primary school and Elkesley Primary School, through a formal collaboration. Prior to this, since January 2013, I was the Headteacher at Elkelsey Primary School.

I chose to teach because I believe that all children should have a right to succeed and reach their potential. There is nothing quite like that moment when a child suddenly understands a new concept.... often a smile mixed with joy and pride sweeps across their face. You cannot help but feel that moment with them!

My career began in East Sussex working as an infant teacher. Over the years I have taught all age ranges in the primary sector. Finally, for the last 8 years whilst based in the classroom, I taught Years 5 and 6. I have led English both in East Sussex and Nottinghamshire. During my time working for East Sussex Local Authority I supported other schools in implementing effective strategies, to raise outcomes in reading and writing. I have led on Assessment in several schools and prior to my appointment as Head at Elkelsey I was part of a senior leadership team that successfully managed an amalgamation between an infant school and junior school.

As both head teacher and executive head I make use of strategic skills, all aspects of people management, including recruitment, training and performance management. My knowledge of teaching, the curriculum and on going changes within education are fundamental to my role. I have successfully trained newly qualified staff and worked alongside established teachers improving teaching and learning opportunities through coaching, mentoring and target setting.

As the head of two small, rural schools, having taught primarily in town schools previously, I find myself having a real passion and commitment to rural schools serving village communities. I believe that the village school should be at the heart of the community. My aim is that each child has opportunities to reach their full potential and that a broad and balanced curriculum is delivered.
